A walk to observe the undisturbed fauna
Cascina Merlanetta is a strictly organic farm overlooking the left bank of the Orba stream, its lands fall within the SIC area (Community Importance Site),Natura 2000 and partly in the natural reserve of the Orba stream.
Thanks to a non-anthropicized environment, wildlife finds its natural habitat through healthy agriculture adjacent to the watercourse and its pertinent areas.
Wild boars, an important number of roe deer, foxes, hedgehogs and porcupines coexist together with the common minor game of feathers and fur. The eroded banks of the Orba stream are home to an important nesting site for the bee-eater while in the water course you can see herons, cormorants, egrets and night herons (symbol of the nature reserve). For years now the wolf has returned to be present and settled after two centuries of absence
Experience
The second form of experiential tourism proposed by Cascina Merlanetta in addition to the experience to become a gold digger is animal watching: walking through the paths between the organic fields you reach the course of the stream and, equipped with telescopes for daytime vision or of a thermal imaging camera for night vision, wild animals can be observed from a distance in complete safety undisturbed in their natural behavior.
This practice is carried out at the first light of dawn or alternatively during the night (at least two hours after sunset) when the animals are most active. The experience lasts about 2 hours and along the way in a rest area of the nature reserve a simple coffee prepared with the old Neapolitan and some drinks is offered.
The most suitable period for this activity is the one in which the vegetation is as bare as possible (autumn, winter, spring) when the visibility even inside the bush is greater.
